Today, the world gathers at the Washington National Cathedral to bid a solemn farewell to the 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter. This state funeral is not only a reflection of a life dedicated to public service but also a reminder of the profound impact one leader can have on the global stage.

Jimmy Carter, remembered for his humility, moral clarity, and relentless pursuit of peace, leaves behind a legacy that transcends his presidency. From the historic Camp David Accords to his post-presidential humanitarian efforts with Habitat for Humanity and global health initiatives, Carter exemplified servant leadership. His work earned him a Nobel Peace Prize and the admiration of millions worldwide.

A Historic Gathering

Approximately 3,000 attendees, including heads of state, international dignitaries, and U.S. leaders, are expected to honor Carter today. All four living former presidents, as well as President Joe Biden, who will deliver the eulogy, and President-elect Donald Trump, are in attendance. Their presence underscores the bipartisan respect Carter commanded throughout his life.

The Washington National Cathedral, the traditional site for presidential funerals, has hosted state funerals for Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, and George H. W. Bush. Rehearsals for such ceremonies are held twice a year, ensuring the solemnity and precision these occasions demand.
